We explored Istanbul and Cappadocia in our 2 week trip to Turkey.

Istanbul has everything.

It is diverse, densely populated (~16M, more than half the population of Australia!), busy, full of historical significance, amazing street food and cats.

Historic Istanbul

Istanbul is full of interesting architecture, mosques, churches within mosques and mosques within churches.

Hagia Sophia Mosque
Blue Mosque
Topkapi Palace
Basilica Cistern

We couldn’t take pictures of the Dolmabahçe Palace. But it was epic.

Exploring the city on foot

Antique shops were full of weird stuff

Cats of Istanbul

There were cats on the streets, in restaurants, on jewellery shop cabinets and cars. Everyone in the city cares for them, feeds them and pats them.

Photoshoot at the cafe

While snapping away at a cafe early morning, the barista walked up to me and asked for his photo to be taken. Sorta thing I’m not good at. Some of it turned out okay.

Food and delights

Street food was simply Incredible. Needless to say, got home a few kilos heavier.

Milky baklava was simply heavenly. Went back twice!
Fish wraps in Karaköy… seriously good.
Now that’s a “big breakfast”

Other side of the Bosphorus

Took a boat up the Bosphorus to see the Black Sea.

Cappadocia

Spent 4 days here and was very fortunate to ride a balloon on the only day they ran for the week!

Incredible landscapes
Hotels in caves, really cool!
Ladies making Gozleme
Claypot stew of Cappadocia
It is the Valley of…

First time on a hot air balloon…

154 balloons up in the air at once!

The end

Turkey was fantastic!
